Oh this is such a lovely book. I really didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did but I found it absolutely captivating. Ailsa is waiting for a heart transplant and spends her time writing her blog and basically asking her readers for their opinions on what she should do about so many of the things that occur in her life. Her best friend and first love, Lennox, dies whilst waiting for a liver transplant (not a spoiler by the way) and Ailsa misses him terribly. Following her transplant she meets Sebastian, an actor and receiver of a corneal transplant. She learns to tango, gets herself a job and makes a major decision about her absent father.
The whole story of Ailsa, her mum, Hayley, Sebastian and all the other characters are beautifully written. It’s a life-affirming book and just smashing.
