The book opens with Alfie, a homeless man in London, posting a letter. He knows he is being watched and followed and knows it is because of something that happened when he was younger, but in true, crime novel style, the reader is not told what this is.
Then Alfie disappears. He had been filmed as part of a documentary about homeless people by Hunter Mackenzie. Hunter gets knocked off his pushbike and ends up in hospital, so asks his girlfriend Rachel to find Alfie.
This first impression definitely left me wanting to read more and I would love to read the book.
