To start with, I was delighted to receive an advance copy of this book thanks to Readers First.

As a huge fan of this type of genre and after reading the first look I was excited to get reading. From the get go the book had all the ingredients to be a good mystery novel. The title of 'The Dark Room' itself was very appealing and the book cover drew me in instantly.

The book revolves around the mysterious death of a homeless man on the streets of London and a remote guest house in Ireland of the name of Hare's Landing. This is the main location point of the novel and its here we also meet the two main characters, Caroline a top New York crime journalist and Rachel, who leaves London amid fears of her own safety.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, I did feel a little disappointed by the end and felt that I wanted more. I felt that as the story progressed, there could have been more suspense built in, a few more clues, a little more danger and the supernatural elements could have been elevated. As I read on, I did also feel the plot came a little predictable and more or less knew how the story would resolve.

Despite this, this is a really good read and had a cozy feel to it. I will definitely look out for more books by Sam Blake in the future.
