This is a great, easy to read, pacey thriller that you can easily devour in one sitting!

The two female leads compliment each other really well - Rachel is the gentler, more innocent one to Caroline’s steely edge and street smarts honed from years of investigative journalism, but together they are able to piece everything together.

The plot is great - as well as the suspense and crime, there’s a gothic edge to it from their surroundings at Hare’s Landing hotel, an old estate which is rumoured to be haunted, and where all the elements of the story end up focused. It’s a really descriptive book, so you get a real sense of place and atmosphere!

There were a few moments where I felt things which didn’t need saying were over explained a little (like the explanation of how upsetting the end of a relationship could be!), but these could easily be skimmed past.

Overall I found this a compelling read - great plot, characters to warm to, a beautiful but creepy setting, and I didn’t even mention the sidekick dog, Jasper, who plays quite a big part in the story.

A must read for any thriller fans!
