Something missing
I was so looking forward to reading this but I was a tad disappointed in the end.
It’s a good plot, the threads of the storyline are interwoven well and the characters are engaging, but I was left dissatisfied.
I felt that the supernatural elements were underdeveloped. Caroline clearly has some psychic talents, maybe the author intends to explore that further in another novel? I felt that there were two ‘presences’ at the house, Honoria and Alfie, and at least one of them was not ‘settled’ by the end of the novel. Indeed, I was left in some confusion about Honoria.
I was disappointed with Mrs Danvers, oh sorry, I mean Travers – but the author did give a nod to ‘Rebecca’. Perhaps she knew that comparisons would be made anyway.
It wasn’t a bad read. In fact I quite enjoyed it. But I still feel there was more to the story than we were told.
Thank you to Readers First, Corvus & Sam Blake for the ARC in return for my honest review.
