There seems to be a lot of mixed opinions with the First Impressions of this book. I guess that historical fiction is something you either enjoy or you don't.
I, for one, do enjoy it and this book caught my eye when checking out this week's books.

I personally like the look of the cover - I pick it up if I saw it in a bookshop and the premise sounds interesting.
I read part of the extract and a few niggly points stood out for me (repetition of description, a little stilted on the dialogue), but overall I get the impression that the premise is good and I appreciate that it can take time to get into a story.

My initial impression of The Devil's Half Mile reminded me of Andrew Taylor's The Scent of Death and the corruption and opportunities at the expense of others that were taken in the fledging days of the birth of the United States.

Overall a book that I would choose to purchase and one that I would love to receive and review.
