The Devil's half mile is a historical thriller set in New York in 1799. I found it hard to get into and had to read a couple of chapters numerous times but once plot started to unfold I couldn't put it down. I really liked our main character Justy Flanagan, he was brave, intelligent and loyal to his morals. I learnt a lot about America's first financial crisis, the stock exchange and the Panic of 1792 and the brilliant and tight plot really helped. The author obviously has done extensive research to make this book vivid and accurate as possible to the events of the past. I couldn't help feeling attached to many of the characters and I have hope they may also be a sequel as this was brilliantly written and paced.
