Has potential for historical fan but not captivating enough

This is a well written extract. But I found that it's got a slow start. After having read the first chapter I would have put the book down. Maybe it gets better during the rest of the story. It wasn't captivating enough. I didn't feel anything for any of the characters, but again perhaps the character development is throughout the story. I don't read many historical fictions, but the ones I have read I have absolutely adored. Sadly, this is not one of them. This is written for fans of the relevant era's or fans of historical fiction. But it's not a story to get someone new into the genre. The cover is suitable for the genre but not appealing to me.
