This parallel timed book based in the 1930’s and 1970’s is captivating from beginning to end. It tells the story of amazing grandmother Emma Meeke’s life of mystery, espionage and revenge, embroiling her grandson Phil into this work and world. It has politics, life as a diplomat’s wife, history, issues of trust but also love, family, bonds between siblings, husband and wife, mother and daughter, grandmother and grandson. I really liked the detail about East and West Berlin, the wall and the restrictions of the times. Such recent history. What lives and lies!

Sometimes dual timed books can lack flow but I found this was not the case with The Diplomat’s Wife. In fact I found it an easy read and I felt compelled to read another chapter, then another. I was drawn by the cover and feel it will attract readers when it is published. This book would appeal to readers of historical fiction, mystery, thrillers and espionage.
