I love historical fiction and spy novels and this one does not disappoint. I love the angle this book takes as it gives a fresh take on the genre.

The book follows Emma and her grandson Phil, as they take a trip down memory Lane. Phil had been planning to hitch hike round Europe with a friend but his father puts a spanner in the works. Emma comes to his rescue with a plan to employ Phil as her driver around Europe.

The unlikely pair of grandmother and 18 year old grandson set off in Emma’s sports car. Phil is not sure this trip will be as fun as the one he had planned, however he is soon proved wrong.

On the journey Phil learns far more about his grandmother, and a great uncle he never knew he had. Phil discovers his grandmother’s history and helps her on her mission to answer an unresolved question. To add further drama, Phil has a mission of his own which he cannot tell his grandmother.

Phil and Emma get caught up in the world of spying, and the book keeps the twists coming right up to the end. A fabulous story and very well written.
