Having read and reviewed the first four chapters I was intrigued to know the whole story and was lucky enough to win a copy.
All through the book you feel as though you are in that place at that time and can feel the atmosphere and at times wish you could be there as well and share in some [but not all] of their experiences.
Descriptions of 1979 middle class suburbia, growing up in the 1930's in a mansion, the rise of Communist feelings in those early days especially of the "upper educated" all make you feel you are there at the time and then the story being told in instalments by "Grams" to Phil whilst driving through and staying in Paris,Berlin both in 1979 and 1930 before and during the start of WW2 keeps your interest in what is going to happen next!
Having grown up through and from the 1950's the characters and balance of feeling is so real.
For me the book ends on a question is it all answered?
