Enjoyable but a little OTT

It’s probably a 3.5 if I was being honest, so I rounded up!

Starting with the book cover. This is not at all a good representation of the storyline. It looks like a typical historical romance when there is far more to it than that. I think someone wanting a chick-lit romance might be unimpressed and someone wanting a spy/crime book may never pick it up.

The actual storyline was enjoyable. It was easy to read, there was lots to take in but it was also interesting. I felt the characters were interesting and fun to read about. I also enjoyed how different parts of history were interwoven into the story to imagine how people might have felt at different points in time.

The swapping between the two timelines was done well and fitted in with the story. I liked that it didn’t feel the necessity to alternate the chapters between times. So sometimes there were several from one time in one go.

I felt parts were a little too dramatic and over the top. It took something away from what was largely an enjoyable book.
