Firstly the cover give us a really good idea about what and wherethis book is going to be about about, second i really like period where the event are happening it offers so many possibilities and how it's set in two different time zones. It all starts with the death of Hugh, Emma's beloved brother in 1936. Emma goes on to marry a Diplomat and is based during that time in Paris and then Nazi Berlin and throughout, it seems she is struggling to come to terms with her brothers death. Fast forward to 1976 and she goes back to Germany with her Grandson Phil who is on a gap year. How has she lived her life in the decades between these two events is what we read about. In terms of characters, I liked the way that the characters fitted into the story and how Emma found people again was very clever. Although this book is not my normal genre l would definitely read something feom this author again
