I genuinely expected less from this book although I can’t say exactly why. I read it fairly quickly considering the plot depth. It’s an interesting coincidence or chance that Phillip and his Gram takes the trip in the first place particularly together under limited information and circumstances. It becomes clearer as you read on why she needed a young fit man to accompany her on her European request for revenge. There were points that i was unsure if she would finish her story or the trip and I wasn’t surprised that Phillip did not return to the UK as she planned he should. I don’t think personally I could have forgiven Roland for his indiscretion and although she believes that she is paying him back I don’t feel she did enough. I liked the way that the characters fitted into the story and how Emma found people again was very clever. Overall a good solid story with lots of twists that ultimately ended victoriously although generally marred by sadness.
