I wasn't particularly drawn to the books cover initially but found the book very enjoyable. I hadn't read this author before and was not sure what to expect. The book starts off at a sedate pace and the writing style is different to what i would normally read but in a good way! The story of a lady and her grandson, travelling through Europe together, enjoying reminiscing about her youth, marriage, friends and more interesting her political beliefs and actions prior to the second world war. There are unexpected twists and turns throughout this book with secrets being kept in the past and to the current day. The writer keeps you gripped throughout the journey and I wanted to find out what would happen next. There are lovely descriptive passages from the past that make the reader want to go and explore more. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in history, politics and enjoys a thriller.
