1936: Devastated by the death of her beloved brother Hugh, Emma seeks to keep his memory alive by wholeheartedly embracing his dreams of a communist revolution. But when she marries an ambitious diplomat, she must leave her ideals behind and live within the confines of embassy life in Paris and Nazi Berlin. Then one of Hugh's old comrades reappears, asking her to report on her philandering husband, and her loyalties are torn.

Fast-paced, twisty, and hugely enjoyable. Ridpath's wonderfully vivid descriptions, colorful characters, and thoroughly engaging plot made me want to jump into a two-seater and head for Paris! journey packed with twists turns and hidden secrets. A real page-turner . . . highly ingenious and engaging: a mystery within a mystery within a mystery, like one of those Russian dolls. I was gripped. The irony in all this is that Amnesia will lodge in my memory for years to come. Atmospheric, sinuous, and elegant, demonstrates Ridpath's special talent to grip her reader with her writing style...An engaging heroine and a clever, multi-stranded plot make this an enthralling read! I was hooked ...An intricately plotted tale of betrayal and espionage ... part road-trip, part spy thriller, it is utterly compelling and unputdownable
