The book starts with the awful tragedy of losing her brother so straight away you are full of emotion and sympathy for Emma. The loving story of how she seeks to keep his dreams alive has every readers heart warmed.
I loved how the story was told with the two different timelines and it was done so incredibly well and really worked. Often the switching can ruin a book for me but on this one it worked perfectly. Particularly I enjoyed the travelling they did throughout the book and whilst reading I was picturing all these new places that Emma and her grandson had visited. The elements of history that was entwined within the story was also enjoyable - reading about the spies hidden throughout places and clearly Ridpath had done research about the places as it was full of facts which I also liked. The bond that Emma forms with her grandson just finishes the story off nicely
