You are thrown straight into the action with this novel, at Alexa's 18th birthday party where you get to know the characters a little through their actions and Alexa's thoughts. It was an interesting start. However, I found it difficult to be interested in the lives of the very rich from the 1920s. This is down to personal taste rather than any problems with the story itself.

Again, down to personal taste the front cover would probably put me off. However, I can imagine to someone who is interested in this genre then it would instantly appeal.

I felt like Alexa seemed very spoilt despite the fact she should be seen as a semi-tragic heroine of the story. The fact that she seemed to just accept that everything like this should happen for her, the fact that her best friend would do anything for her, the fact that she was moving away and hadn't thought to tell anyone else or consider their feelings. I think this also put me off the story.
