This book is set in Venice and Cornwall. Alexa grows up in Cornwall with her friend Harvey. Harvey proposes to Alexa on her eighteenth birthday but she runs away without giving him an answer. She becomes a companion to a titled lady and they journey to Venice.Alexa tries to find her estranged grandmother. The story twists and turns to its predictable ending although the twists are welcome.
I enjoyed this book which is not my usual sort of book. It is well written with likeable characters. The description of Venice makes the reader feel they are actually there. I have never been and after reading this book I can't wait. The 1920 are well portrayed.
I would highly recommend this book. Readers of Kate Morton and Rachel Hore would really enjoy it.
