I very much enjoyed this book although it's not the type of book I usually choose to read.
The start had me hooked - Harvey proposes to his childhood friend, Alexa at her 18th birthday party but she runs away and disappears without giving him an answer. Alexa becomes companion to Lady Meredith in London and they travel to Venice where Alexa tries to find her estranged grandmother. The descriptions of upper class life in the twenties and thirties in both places are well portrayed. The storyline was unpredictable with a couple of surprising twists which I didn't see coming.
Ideal for fans of Kate Morton and Rachel Hore.
I plan to read Catherine Law's previous 4 books now and hope that they are just as good as The First Dance.
