This is a historical novel about Alexa, a girl who returns from boarding school to Cornwall and rejects her best friend's (very public) proposal for marriage. Alexa runs away to Venice and we learn about her intriguing life there!
The First Dance by Catherine Law is very well written and easy to get into. However, I did not like the characters who were rather one-dimensional and quite inconsistent. This meant I could not connect to the characters very well and ended up only being half-heartedly interested in this book. The plot was quite interesting at points and had some intriguing twists and turns.
I can see how someone might like this book, but personally, I did not click with this book.
