After reading Caroline Bond's first book, The Second Child, last year, I was really looking forward to finding out about The Forgotten Sister. In her new novel, we meet Cassie, aged 17, who is adopted, her younger sister, Erin, aged 13, and their parents, Grace and Tom.

Cassie is a typical teenager – full of emotions, starting to rebel and wanting to learn more about life and herself. She works as a waitress at a local hotel and has a boyfriend called Ryan. After deciding to visit the family planning clinic, she is disturbed to learn that she doesn't know anything about her family medical history and can't answer the doctor's questions. Cassie's subsequent quest to learn more about her birth family starts off a chain of events that have far-reaching consequences for all her family.

I really enjoyed this book – it was well written and I was enthralled by the storyline and hoped that things would get resolved positively at the end. All the characters are sensitively portrayed and you really get a feeling for the emotions they're going through. Overall, a thought-provoking book and an interesting look at the adoption process and its repercussions, as well as family loyalty and emotions.
