A good well written story of what happens when an adopted child tries to find her birth mother. The author has done a lot of research into the adoption process which is not an easy one. We see in both Cassie and Leah how far reaching the effects of neglect are. The story moves back and forward in time and also is told from the perspective of the different characters. The book explores the relationships within the family and how everything breaks down when Cassie discovers the secret her parents have kept from her. The readers sympathies are with Leah who is the real victim in this story. She's been let down by her own mother, by Grace and Tom and the whole childcare system. A book well worth reading.
