Cassie has always known that she was adopted, she lives a happy life in a lovely house with her adoptive parents and their daughter Erin who she sees as her sister. At seventeen she becomes unsettled and feels that she really needs to know about her past. Her parents tell her the story of how she came to be part of their family, but Cassie is sure that they are not telling her everything and that there is a lot more to the story. She sets out to find out the truth, which is not as straight forward as it seems, and the secret her parents have kept from her leads her into a terrifying place.

I have a personal interest in fostering and adoption so found this book very interesting. I think there is something in all of us that wants to know where we came from, so for a child who has been adopted I think this desire is probably much stronger. At one time it was probably a lot harder to trace your roots, but now with the advent of technology and better record keeping I would imagine it is easier. Trouble is you never know what you are going to uncover, which is exactly what happens in this book. It takes the reader on a whirlwind of emotion of wanting Cassie to find her roots yet also seeing the negative side of this too, of the trouble and danger she is getting herself into. Although this is fiction, it could be a true story, so when the end is reached leaves you pondering it all for a while. I really enjoyed reading this book, I thought it was a brilliant read!
