I had no idea what to expect from this book, I had never heard of the author before. I found it to be a pleasant surprise. The book is about a girl called Cassie who is adopted from a young age by a couple who were not successful having their own child (until after the adoption). Cassie makes a decision to embark on finding her birth mum, though she was warned of her mum's inability to cope, by her adopted parents. The story follows Cassie and the realisations that come to her along the way. This book gave me an insight into the adoption process and follow up and the pain that can also come, even years after successful adoption. I found this to be a page turner and I finished it very quickly. I was satisfied with the ending and felt that things were wrapped up nicely. I find it is disappointing to get to the end of a book and not be satisfied with the ending. I felt that the characters were brought to life by the author and I almost felt like I was part of the family while reading the book. I am going to add 'The Second Child' by the same author to my reading list and will keep an eye out for future books of hers. I would definitely recommend this book.
