I really liked this first impression but not a big fan of the cover. However a cover is far less important than a good opener.

There was a quality to the characterisation that was immediately evident and I found myself whizzing through this entry.

A fairly casual opener that slips in the discovery of a dead body in a conversation between 2 characters. The author does well by not immediately jumping back in the timeline and by having the main character continue with her day after hearing the news.

In just this first impression we get a good deal of insight into the type of person Kate is and what she does and it's done in a way that is engaging not boring.

When you throw in the mystery of what events may have taken place 10 years before and the characters fairly cassualy discussing the discovery of a french girls body with no allusion to a group complicity at this stage.

The tone and plot points seems a bit different than my usual crime thrillers.I find myself intrigued and wanting to know more.
