The premise screams familiar territory and reads as another in the long line of familiar books I have read that begin with the basic reunion scenario and the repercussions when they are al, brought together for one last big showdown. The most recent of the novels following this format was Karen Perry’s “Can You Keep a Secret?”. Ultimately these all turn out to be somewhat derivative.

However on reading the First Impression I was pleasantly surprised; not only it is well-written and readily engaging but author Lexie Elliot is already starting to generate an atmosphere and narrator and legal headhunter, Kate, quickly sets the story in motion by starting to flesh out the characters in the group: Tom, Caro, Seb, Lara and Jenna. The question is whether Lexie Elliot can sustain this inroads into suspense that she is building and deliver characters who navigate the stereotypical pitfalls!

By the sounds of it the drama set in motion by the death of Severine reminds most of the group of awkward memories and comes at a time a decade down the line when they are all at very different stages in their lives... but who will crack first? I am pleasantly optimistic after reading the First Impression!
