I have to confess that I found this thriller difficult to get into but once the story warmed up I found myself being drawn into the tale as it became clear that death of Severine was more complex than initially thought.
Severine is the French Girl of the tile and it is the discovery of her body ten years after she went missing that provides the plot for the story. Severine is a constant is constant throughout the book as she appears in vision form to Kate who is initially suspected by the French police of being her killer. Kate meanwhile has to contend not only with the suspicions of the French police but the rivalries within the group of friends who had shared the cottage where Severine went missing. In addition to this Kate is trying to run her own headhunter firm which brings her into close contact with the firm that Caro, one of the friends, works at and of whom Kate has always had her suspicions.
There are plenty of twists and turns along the way and the ending is itself a surprise.
