The plotline is about 6 university friends who went on holiday to France 10 years before. A French girl called Severine was staying in the cottage next door and she disappeared around the time they left. A piece of CCTV was uncovered showing her at the bus station so they were allowed to go on with their lives. Fast forward 10 years.
Theo is now dead, having died a hero in Afghanistan. Seb is married and living in the states. Tom has just returned to London from Boston having split up with his fiancée. Caro is working for her father's law firm and Lara and Kate, our narrator, are still best friends living and working in London.
The remaining 5 are contacted by the French Police as Severine's body has been discovered in a filled in well on the property they were staying in.
Who is responsible, was it one of them?
As the investigation progresses Kate starts to "see" Severine around her. Is she going mad, is it because she has something to hide?
