If you are looking for a light poolside read that won't grab you so strongly that all you want to do for the first day of your holiday is to read this book, then this is the book for you. It missed the mark on the type of book I rave about, but it certainly isn't one I would slate either.
Having read the info about this book I was looking forward to reading it. I thought it would be a really good atmospheric, pull you in mystery that I may be able to relate to having spent time as a teenager in gîtes in rural France as a teenager. Unfortunately it didn't quite match my anticipation.
It starts off nice enough and there's plenty of mystery with a sense of trying to figure out where everyone fits in with what happened on the last night of their fateful holiday. It all then started to drop off for me. I found the characters unrelatable and unlikable. There's a French detective that just put me in mind of the anglo/french policeman out of Allo Allo.. he was quite cheesy as a character that we are supposed to actually take seriously. The story just didn't hold together very well for me to be able to say it was fantastic. It was a bit predictable , with the way it all was revealed being too far fetched and unrealistic for my taste.
I read a complimentary copy of this through The Pigeonhole and this is my honest opinion.
