Overall the book was decent; not the worst I've ever read, but not exactly that good either. The plot was quite predictable and used common themes that many readers have probably already seen in many other books. Taking a popular feature and incorporating it in your own story is not a bad thing; however, if you're planning on re-using something that has been used before by other authors, you have to make it special one way or another... make it relevant to your storyline and/or plot. But if you don't use it right, it drags you down as it makes your book seem cliché-ish and ordinary, and overall not very memorable.
The characters were likeable, but again, nothing too good. Their contrasting personalities made it interesting for the reader, as you would find at least one of the characters relatable and get almost attached to them; but this was about it.
