20 years ago, 6 year old Arden Maynor went missing when she was swept away in a flash flood whilst sleepwalking in the small town of Widow Hills. She was a media sensation that swept the nation, huge search parties ensued, vigils held and prayers from neighbours and strangers willing for her safe return. 3 days later, by some miracle she was found alive clinging to a storm drain. Arden, after starting her life over at 18, under her new name Olivia has managed to lead a normal adult life. Now with the 20 year anniversary of her rescue approaching, the interest in the miracle girl is about to be renewed. Olivia feels like she’s being watched and she’s sleep walking again for the first time in years. One night she jolts awake outside her house with a dead body at her feet. What happened? Is this random or the past catching up with her?

This is my first Megan Miranda book! I’ve heard lots of good things about her writing, especially about her novel The Last House Guest so I was delighted to receive this copy to review from Readers First!

I loved how this book flowed, it was easy to read, following only the single perspective of Olivia interlaced with documents and transcripts from the past. The other characters were realistic and developed just enough through the eyes of someone that’s holding something back. That being said, it was slow and I don’t think many thriller fans would find it gripping or particularly suspenseful. I personally enjoyed the change of pace, it was a perfect read for me to get into whilst getting back to work after furlough.

Based on how well I thought this read and the surprising ending I would definitely pick up more of Megan Miranda‘a books in future!
