This one was a tough read due to the subject matter. The reader knows from the beginning that most of the people in the book aren't going to make it through the atrocities of the Second World War. I was expecting this book to be relentlessly bleak but actually it has some real hope and joy to it. The titular doctor was a truly incredible man who helped so, so many children and never stopped trying to protect them. Reading his story was an honour and I felt so much empathy for each of the people in this book. True stories are always hard because there is no way to distance yourself from their pain but I think it's so important that stories like The Good Doctor of Warsaw continue to be told as time moves on.
