This is another superb book which gives us an insight into the horrors that beset the Polish Jews when Hitler invaded Poland.
The book is about Dr Korczak, who is renowned in his field, which is caring for Children. He lectures on understanding the individual child before you make sweeping decisions about it's care and also runs a Children's home in the Jewish quarter of Warsaw. In the years leading up to the outbreak of war, we're told that things for Jew's in Poland have started to become restricted, but none of the inhabitants believed how bad they would get.
Even when they are moved into the Ghetto, no one believed that they would get as bad as they did, even when they were being systematically starved by the Nazis.
The story is told from three main viewpoints, Dr Korczak, Sophia and Misha. Sophia and Misha survived the war and this book is based on their memories.
I fail to understand why some people do not believe that this happened!
Another must-read book so that we all remember what happened and don't repeat it.
