Skye, our main character, found a way to make money by reading Tarot cards to her high school classmates. She tells white lies to make her life easier and let people out of it, even her best friend Drew. The latter believes she will come with her to live in New York after graduating when in reality, Skye has no plan to come at all. But the lies are getting out of hand and Skye can not go back down anymore. Especially when Paige, the mayor's daughter disappears. Skye pretends to have a vision and tips the police. But when Paige is found dead, Skye becomes their number one suspect.
The plot is interesting, dark, and intriguing because it is related to mystical things and it relies a lot on whether you believe in this kind of thing. I am curious to read how the police - and Skye - are going to handle everything. Especially since everyone in town knows that Skye previously lied about important things...
She is a cunning and resourceful girl and her awkward feelings towards teenagehood and other people make her relatable. Her lies may be questionable but who among us never told a (white) lie? You are drawn into the story rather quickly and while the author answers some of our questions (what is Skyes' family story, etc.) she brings more mystery and things get dark pretty quickly when we understand that Skye is ready to do (almost) everything to escape this town and her own miserable life. Even putting others' lives at risk.
