From the first four chapters, this book appears to take a more mature, original approach to the YA genre, through being more of a mystery thriller. Although the first chapter is quite slow, and not as gripping as perhaps other books I have read, the slow build up throughout the early chapters, slowly learning more about Skye is just as interesting.

The characters are all enjoyable to read about, with Skye being a slightly unreliable narrator (as we discover due to her lying in the past), and her best friend Drew, who is introduced as a LGBT character, and appears to be quite forgiving. It will be interesting to see how far she can be pushed by Skye as the book goes on.

The only thing I would like the book to expand on is the idea of the fortune cards, as this appears to be a central focus from the cover and the blurb, as so far it has only been in chapter one. I hope it continues to be the main theme throughout the book.

Overall, a promising start, to a perhaps thrilling YA book.
