Unexpectedly good story with lots of plot twists.
If somebody had suggested that I read a YA book about American teenagers with a central character who is about to graduate from high school and who claims to be psychic, I would not have been interested.

So this book was surprisingly good and kept my interest until the end.

Skye and her mother live in a low rent apartment in a small town. Her friends have 2 parents and are much more affluent. In the past, Skye has tried to emulate her friends by pretending that her father is a war veteran - that didn't turn out too well as the whole town donated money to help her non existent father recuperate and left Skye with egg on her face and a dubious reputation. Skye would like to share an apartment in New York with her best friend, Drew, but she has been unable to save sufficient money from her part time job in a burger bar and meagre earnings from tarot readings where she just tells her customers what they want to hear.
Then Paige, the most popular girl in the school and a judge's daughter befriends Skye and suggests staging her own kidnapping in order to receive a ransom for Paige's return.
Sounds easy enough but politics and murder cause the plan to fail.
