I read the whole of this book in just a few sittings in a single day. From the first look, I expected this novel to be a compelling one and wow it proved me right.

It was gripping to follow Felicity and her journey exploring the past as she was so haunted by her experiences as a child. Diamond did a good job at setting the scene of a seaside town that was swept by a heatwave that brought sinister killers. I really liked the alternate chapters switching back and forth between the past and present. It all converged nicely towards the end where the novel was reaching its conclusion.

The plot was compelling and definitely twisty. Just when I thought I had sussed something out, another turn would be revealed and change the whole course of the book. Without spoiling any plot points, the twists were equally somewhat predictable as well as completely unexpected. The relationship between Jasmine and Tim was my favourite because it was so complicated and secretive; I was constantly torn over whether or not he was crazy. The subtle foreshadowing dropped in by the author was effective in driving the plot as well as keeping the reader’s attention.

The only thing I would say in criticism is that it was a bit unrealistic the way everything fell into place as Felicity gathered information. Everyone was willing to give her details and were kind of forthcoming with it. However, this does not detract too much from the book.

Thank you so much to Reader’s First who provided me with the ebook version of this novel which I very much enjoyed.
