Prior to this book, I hadn't read or even heard of Katerina Diamond. It was great to come across a new author and a new psychological thriller, even better it was a free copy prior to the publication date. Perfect!

Usually I like psychological thrillers to be fairly fast paced, with plenty going on to keep you guessing throughout. While there are a fair amount of twists and turns, I felt it was a slow burner, something I don't particularly enjoy, and was quite slow to progress. I also felt that some aspects were a little predictable in places, again something I personally don't like from a psychological thriller.

I felt the story was lacking in some respects, mostly in character development of Felicity and her side of the timeline. I also felt that Felicity upping and leaving her family to return to her hometown wasn't something I would have expected, but again there was little character development, so I don't know if this is something Felicity would have been predisposed to do. Maybe this fit with the author's vision of Felicity, but it certainly was depicted within the text.

I enjoyed the writing style and the dual timeline aspect of the book, deviating from the typical narrative of a sole character with flashbacks. It was almost as if I was reading two separate, yet intertwining stories in one, which was something I enjoyed. Other than that, I felt it was lacking substance and the ending, while promising a twist, was predictable and left me with a sense of wanting more. Overall, the book was easy to follow and read, but did feel more like an afternoon read to relax to or fill some time, rather than a gripping psychological thriller.

I wouldn't like to judge Katerina just on this book, as I noticed other works by her have received good reviews and I was disappointed that I didn't enjoy this more, as I was really hoping I would. Maybe this one just wasn't for me and another of her books will be.
