The good first - I read this book in a single day, it was a real page turner and a fun book to pick up and flick through in the garden on a sunny day. I also quite liked the "now" and "then" structure of it.
However - I wasn't really that enamoured with it at all. Simplistic writing, pretty repetitive, and I'd worked out the "big twist" before I was two thirds of the way through. I also don't know why it was called The Heatwave - I read it on a really warm day but didn't feel any sort of extra affinity with it because of this! The characters were quite stereotypical, not particularly likeable and not all that interesting. Although the story had lots of twists and turns, they all led in the same direction, which was a little mundane. I wouldn't rush to pick up another of Katerina Diamond's books.
