A girl kidnapped in the present and a girl missing from the past with the female narrator Flick keeping secrets that could be key to both. She sets off on an unplanned trip back home, her first since she left aged 16 to try and put things right.

This was all set up to be a blistering read but unfortunately just didn't quite hit the spot for me.

Short chapters flicking between the present and the past keep the plot moving along at pace and make for easy reading but a lot of the narrative felt a bit cliched.

I struggled to feel anything for any of the characters, apart from slight irritation for Jasmine, but maybe that was the point with her being a lovestruck teenager??

The story races to a conclusion with a few twists, one of which I had worked out quite early on.

Overall an easy read and one I'm sure some people will love but just not the 'Heatwave' I'd hoped for.
