The Heatwave tells the story of Felicity, a married mother of two who has some anxiety issues. She has built a new life after leaving her home town suddenly years ago but when a crime happens that reminds her of past events she is drawn back there, into a web of mysteries and secrets. The narrative switches between Felicity in the present and her best friend, Jasmine, in the past. It's a slow burner, taking its time to build the suspense and slowly reveal the details of what happened to the two friends the summer before Felicity left. The plot has some good twists and shocking moments, I did feel like the ending was a little rushed though. It's the first book I've read by this author but I enjoyed it enough to want to read her others.
