The prologue immediately caught my attention. It was wonderfully ambiguous and spooky.

I really enjoyed how the creepy atmosphere was introduced in the holiday property, and the descriptions conjured up vivid images in my mind. From the first couple of chapters we can see there is obviously an elephant in the room between the dad, stepmom, and daughter. We have a brilliantly moody pre-teen and a stepmom trying her best to stay patient with her. There are also lots of hints as to what’s going on, but nothing concrete yet. The atmosphere is already very tense, and I can tell this book will be very dark and gothic.
