What a tense opening! I loved the image of the woman in the kitchen with the disconcerting comment about the smell of blood - very sinister and made me wonder what had happened. The description of the house was also really atmospheric and intriguing too - it made me wonder about the dark history of the house and what might happen there. This is a strong opening to a book and one I'd like to read more of.
