Needing a break and a change of scenery, Nell decides to return to her hometown for a family party, along with her husband, Chris, and her stepdaughter, Maude. There are suggestions that Maude has been in some kind of trouble: the relationship with her dad and stepmum is strained and she is allowed only limited access to her phone and the internet.

Immediately the holiday house is not what they expected and Nell gets a bad feeling about it. There's a strange unlived in smell that she can't quite pinpoint, the electrics are temperamental, and it lies in the shade of an imposing cliff, blocking the mobile reception.

Maude has deliberately chosen the attic bedroom to distance herself from her parents. She wants to mention the strange markings she has found but doesn't feel able to bridge the communication gap.

Promises to be a spooky and unnerving read.
