The Hiding Place by Amanda Mason tells the story of Nell, Chris and Maude who rent a cottage in the town Nell grew up in. What follows is an eerie story of secrets, family and relationships.
This is not a genre that I would automatically go for, but it was something different and I thought it was really good. I felt the tension and the atmosphere that was being described within the house - this continued to build as the story progressed. I did question at one point whether I should carry on reading whilst I was home alone at night!
I definitely warmed to Nell, though I didn’t really feel like I got to know that much about her as she always felt quite distant. Her relationship with her husband and also the women around her were interesting and made this into a very good read.
A great Halloween read and one to recommend if anyone is looking for a ghost story!
