This book is not the usual type of genre that I would read, but I do think we should read outside our normal comfort zone.
The story begins with well used descriptive language and kept me gripped. The family of Nell, Chris and Maude rent a house for a break when they will be attending a family party. The family of three are not a close knit loving group. Tensions are showing early on in the story.Maude, Nell's step daughter is coming to terms with her family break up, Mum’s new marriage and step brother; Nell and Maude had been getting on well as step mother and step daughter however the time at Elder House enlarges the cracks in relationships.
Why are possessions disappearing and then reappearing in a different room; why are there so many creaks in the building. Who banged on the front door. What are the new neighbours really like?
The book is creepy and when one reads mainly at night just before sleep then sleep may be scarce!
I have my own views as to what will happen when I reach the end of the story. Of the three main characters will they remain together or will there be another split? I would never write the ending to the story in a review as I feel the reader should go on their own journey when reading. A book I could read once.
