Bit of a mixed bag
Successful jewellery designer Nell Galilee and her husband, Chris, and step daughter. Maude, arrive in the village where Nell grew up for a family party (still not entirely sure why the party was important enough to lure Nell back to a place she seems to have no fond memories of).
They rent the rather odd Elder House with a view to having a much needed holiday after the party. Unfortunately, business worries mean that Chris must return to work to untangle planning issues.
In all honesty, I found Nell to be a bit of a drip, more suited, perhaps, to an historical novel where she could have drooped to her heart's content. Also, Maude is a thoroughly unlikeable 12 year old who is with them in term time due to some trouble at school - also never really explained - despite having apparently been an almost angelic child previously.
I found the story jumped around and felt like some parts, which may have explained some of some peoples actions, might have been edited out.
I didn't really enjoy this book and will probably not search out any more by this author.
