A chilling read. I enjoyed this atmospheric story which has been dubbed the modern day ghost story.

Leaving her home town as a teenage girl, Nell returns to Whitby, North Yorkshire with her husband Chris and his daughter Maude, to live at Elder Cottage for a short break away. Elder House is an old historic building with lots of curiosity from the neighbours and when the family arrives, it is quite eerie. The story follows the strange going ons which is coming from the house and with a strained relationship with her step daughter, Nell can't quite put her finger on why they feel uneasy. They find a Hiding Place in the wall of the master bedroom which has something mysterious stored there. However, is what stored there to protect or harm them?? A haunting tale of secrets, The Hiding Place was spooky indeed.

Overall, it was a good read. I definitely enjoyed the atmospheric and chilling vibes. It was suitable for an October read but I found it rather slow and felt so much more could have happened... Nonetheless, the supernatural elements of the story were great. In particular the small town setting provided a tense atmosphere to the read. Definitely recommend if you're after a ghostly atmosphere.
