I have had this book for just about a year now and have kept putting it off to read until now. I don't know why I waited so long because I found this book to be hauntingly beautiful and well written. Keeping the creepiness at that perfect level with the correct amount of pure human crazy mixed in amongst the paranormal.

Nell and her husband decides to make a holiday out of a family get together, along with Chris's daughter who has gotten in to some trouble in school, they rent a holiday let in Nell's home town, hoping for the best.
From the get go, Nell feels like there is something wrong with the house, there's odd smells and feelings which her husband doesn't seem to notice. Nell tries to push pass it and focus on mending the relationship with her step daughter which has fractured, but along the way, the house seems to be creating a bigger gab between them which is made worse when Chris leaves for a few days to deal with issues at work.

The Hiding place deals with the past, with motherhood and connections between people, both in the present and in the past. It makes you question things and makes you shiver at the same time.
